A Thankful Community

Every year, several churches in Nokomis come together to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year, the Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at Grace Baptist on November 22 at 6 pm.

When we think about Thanksgiving, we often think about turkey, family, and football. And while it’s fun to celebrate these traditions, the holiday truly has its roots in being thankful to God. It’s a time set aside to thank God for the innumerable blessings that He gives to us. Blessings of salvation, His presence, His sustaining hand upon our lives.

Psalm 136:1 says, “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His steadfast love endures forever.”

Of course, when viewed in that way, every day should be Thanksgiving. For God’s love is constant, and therefore we always have reason to be thankful to Him.

But the unique thing about Thanksgiving is that we’re thankful together. We come together to express thankfulness to God.

And the unique thing about the Community Thanksgiving Service is that we come together from various faith backgrounds, yet we are united in our thankfulness to God.

God told Abraham, “Through you all of the nations will be blessed.” Jesus Christ, the descendent of Abraham, blessed all the world when He died on the cross for our sin, so that by grace through faith in Him, we are saved.

Join us November 22 at 6 pm as we express thankfulness to God for His innumerable blessings in Christ.
